kpix 5's mark kelly is in our newsroom. we're learning that newman apparently in good health. mark. >> reporter: frank, swedish diplomats have been able to visit him giving him medication for his heart. the obama administration is now urging for newman's release citing his advanced age and health conditions. >> i can understand that in u.s. and western countries, there is misleading information and propaganda about pprk. >> reporter: north korean state media released this video over the weekend of detained american tourist 85-year-old merrill newman reading a handwritten apology. pyongyang said newman admits he is guilty of big crimes when he fought for the u.s. in the korean war killing civilians, working with anticommunist guerrillas and planning now 60 years later to try to meet up with them. the video shows newman signing the four-page statement he read on camera dated november 9 and

sealing it with his thumbprint in red ink. what was to him next isn't clear. after being held since late october, taken off a plane just as his tour group was leaving, the white house is now weighing in. a spokesman saying, the u.s. is deeply concerned, calling on north korea to release newman and fellow american kenneth bae, now held for more than a year. but one expert says that could complicate and already sensitive situation. >> north korea doesn't want to give impression to the world that north korea is giving in to the demand of pressures coming from washington. >> reporter: former u.n. ambassador bill richardson, who says his north korean contacts aren't responding, told cnn on sunday that kim jong-un isn't following north korea's usual pattern of releasing americans after getting a purported confession. >> so this is baffling opposite but this is a new regime of the

company's busiest ever moving some 22 million boxes in a single day. online shopping is fueling the growth. cyber sales are projected to top out at $1.8 billion. and someone has to shop all those purchases. fedex has a 300,000-person staff around the world for deliveries and adding seasonal workers to help. we'll see some cold weather here in the bay area the first week of december. let's go to lawrence and find out how cold it will go. >> this easily is the coldest outbreak of the season headed our way right now. still got a little ways to get here. that cold front working its way down from the gulf of alaska. that is going to usher in some much colder air starting tonight. it will begin to move into our skies. there's even a chance of some cold showers overnight but it's going to be those cold temperatures that you're going to be talking about all week long. in fact, this is what we can expect. a few cold showers tonight. tomorrow temperatures dropping 8 to 12 degrees from today's highs and then some freezing temperatures especially into wednesday and thursday morning,

we could see a hard freeze with some of those temperatures down into the 20s and the low 30s. we'll have more on your weather coming up in just a minute. back to you. >> thank you. right now san francisco police are trying to find a killer who was connected with the victim online. the fought tal shooting happened yesterday -- fatal shooting happened yesterday afternoon at bayshore boulevard and jerrold avenue in the bayview. he was robbed and shot several times when he showed up when he was to meet the buyer. san mateo police say a man hit and killed by two cars was not in a marked crosswalk at the time. he 58-year-old was hit around 6:15 this morning on el camino real under highway 92. investigators are trying to figure out if he came from a nearby homeless encampment. traffic tied up for several hours while police were investigating the accident. one car involved left the scene but police have found it and say both drivers are cooperating. a toddler who was trapped under water for more than 10

minutes is making a miraculous recovery. brian webb talked to the rescuers credited with saving the young boy's life. >> reporter: it was a typical saturday afternoon at vallejo fire station 23 when a 911 call came in from one district over. but when a little boy is drowning, you don't worry about the address. >> i actually was working out in the gym so i was in a t- shirt and shorts. >> reporter: a 2-year-old had fallen in this murky green pond while fishing with his grandmother. she couldn't find him after searching for nearly 10 minutes. when diane arrived, she jumped in and spotted the boy in a drain pipe on her second dive. >> he actually had drifted underneath the road and was suspended. so i saw him, saw the white t- shirt, grabbed him and i was able to stand on the bottom, raise my hands up and i handed him off. >> like an overpass. >> reporter: apprentice firefighter wally trajillo six months on the job started chest compressions and prayers. >> every firefighter, par middic would have to agree when it's a pediatric, it's an eerie feeling because you never know

proved back in october. bart's directors removed a family leave provision before they voted to ratify that deal. today there's a new 600- foot-long barricade at the [ indiscernible ] to halt a dangerous stunt by commuters just off highway 121 near the intersection with 37. that's where the traffic often backs up in the afternoon and some people trying to get to vallejo turn left on to 121 and make a u-turn into the raceway's driveway and head back to 37. this has already caused a crash and a number of near misses, as well. some other news around the bay on this monday two earthquakes shook gilroy overnight the first 2.5, at 1:30 this morning then 2:05 a 3.7. both centered about four miles south-southeast of gilroy. we have had no reports of damage or injuries. santa rosa teen shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy may have a memorial park created in his honor. sonoma county lawmakers will meet tomorrow to discuss the request from the community, a

temperatures. and then this evening the clouds start to move in. there's a chance we could see a few showers overnight tonight into tomorrow. and then some very cold brisk weather ahead as a whole arctic air mass settles in over the bay area and it's up here now. this cold front will dive in overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. that will usher in the much colder temperatures outside. numbers around the state today, you will see some showers in far northern california about 53 degrees in eureka, 62 in redding and 65 degrees in sacramento. 57 mostly sunny into the monterey bay. computer models showing you the clouds starting to move in throughout the evening hours. and a chance of a few scattered showers overnight tonight. you see the clouds off and on throughout the day tomorrow, as well. and then once those clouds move out, it looks like tomorrow night and then into wednesday morning and thursday morning those will be the two coldest mornings, maybe we are seeing a hard freeze especially in some of the north bay valleys. temperatures around the bay area today looking at a lot of numbers moving up into the 60s this afternoon, 65 in milpitas,
